Biography

Mike Chau was born in Hong Kong and studied with Wu See-Lok (Former Principal Violist of Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Hong Kong Sinfonietta), Michael Ma (Former Concert Master of Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and current String Department Head of HKAPA) and Patricia McCarty (Former Principal Violist of Boston Symphony Orchestra). He received his Diploma in Music Performance from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, a Performance Certificate from the Boston Conservatory of Music and his Licentiate (LTCL) and Fellowship (FTCL) Diplomas in Performance from the Trinity College of London. He is active on the local music scene giving regular solo recitals and chamber music performances. In 2007 he played the Stamitz viola concerto with the Union Philharmonic Orchestra. He has appeared with many local and overseas orchestras including the Asian Youth Orchestra and the Boston Conservatory Orchestra where he served as the principal violist from 1996 to 1998. Mike is currently a founding member and principal violist of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong in 2006-2012. He has also appeared as a guest player of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Macau Orchestra.

周迪恆生於香港,曾跟隨導師包括胡思樂 (前香港管弦樂團及香港小交響樂團中提琴首席)、 馬忠為教授 (前香港管弦樂團團長及現任香港演藝學院弦樂系主任)、Partricia McCarty (前波士頓交響樂團中提琴首席)。 周氏獲得香港演藝學院音樂文憑、波士頓音樂學院演奏證書、英國倫敦聖三一 LTCL 及 FTCL。 周氏活躍於本地音樂事業,定期舉行獨奏及室樂演奏會,2007年他與香港大學學生管弦樂團合作演出 Stamitz viola concerto。他亦參與本地及海外交響樂團,包括1994—1995年亞洲青年管弦樂團,在1996至1998年期間,他成為波士頓音樂學院中提琴首席。周氏為香港城市室樂團創團成員之一, 並在2006至2012擔任中提琴首席,周氏同時擔任香港管弦樂團、香港小交響樂團, 以及澳門樂團的客席團員。

Biography

Mr. Poon Kai Ying graduated with an Advance Diploma from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1996, major in Bass Trombone. He then obtained a Professional Diploma in Music in 1997. During his year of studies, he studied trombone with the former Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Bass Trombone, Mr. Philip Brink. He then continued his studies with the former Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Trombone, Mr. Roger Cutts and current Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Trombone, Mr. Jerrod Vernette.

Mr. Poon played in the Summit Brass organized by the Phoenix State University in 1993 and International Brassfest organized by the Indiana University in 1996. In the master class of music camps, he studied with Jeffery Reynolds, Principal Bass Trombonist of Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mr. Poon gained a place in the audition of the Asian Youth Orchestra in 1996 as one of the Hong Kong representatives in an Asia tour to Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka), Malaysia (Kulur Lumpar), Taipei, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand. During the tour, he studied with Mr. John Swallow, Trombone professor of Yale University.

Mr. Poon joined the Hong Kong Sinfonietta as a Bass Trombonist from 1993 to 1999. After 1999, he joined Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan) as a Bass Trombonist till 2003. He performed in the USA, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Macau. Besides, he also acted as a Band Master and Instrument Tutor for a number of primary and secondary schools in Taiwan. He led the school bands to win different prizes and was finally invited to be the judge of the Taiwan Music Festival.

Mr. Poon returned to Hong Kong in August, 2003. He is currently a Band Master and Instrument Tutor of St Rose of Lima's School. He is also the Brass Coach of St. Paul’s Co-educational College Wind Band, Instrument Tutor of St. Paul’s Co-educational College, St. Paul’s Co-educational College Primary School and SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School.

Biography

Mr. Danny Cheng, a Hong Kong violinist, graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He is currently the Music Director of the Hong Kong Pro String Music & Classical Music Studio and is the founding member of Mr. Quartet. He is devoted to promoting music culture and music education in various fields and has been awarded the “Best Teacher Award” at the Hong Kong International Youth Performing Arts Festival. Cheng is active musician in the classical music and pop music field, and is passionate about violin and cello. Since 2007, he has been a violinist of the Hong Kong City Chamber Orchestra. He is also a guest musician of many famous Hong Kong orchestras and overseas orchestras, including The Hong Kong Pure Strings, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Macau Virtuosi and Hong Kong String Symphony Orchestra. Cheng has served as a performer of various famous pop singers and has performed in hundreds of overseas tours. Among the singers are Jacky Cheung, Eason Chan, Sammi Cheng, Alan Tam, Paula Tsui, Hins Cheung, Frances Yip, Joseph Koo, Coco Lee, Kit Chan, Liu Chia-chang, Paul Wong Koon Chung, Ivana Wong, Hacken Lee, A-Lin, Joey Yung, Fish Leong, Ekin Cheng and so on.

Cheng was also invited to perform at the 23rd Hong Kong Awards, Radio Hong Kong, 903, New Town Entertainment, TVB2016, Golden TV, TVB 50th Anniversary and other performances.
